that can be done without sin. But when commands of the civil authority cannot be obeyed without sin, we must obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29).
Therefore, we find that many persons who served as troublesome clergy leadership within the formative years of the United States fought rightly against governmental slavery being exercised by the British state of that day. It follows then in this modern time, that clergy persons yet retain the right to participate in supporting the general good by fighting for or against civil authority when needed. Consequently, like our forebears in ministry who worked and fought for freedom, we of the present Church are still spiritually empowered to rightly step into state leadership roles… even while retaining our status within the Christian church. We as Christian are also called to participate in wars, such as those anywhere in this world that promote human life and liberty. This dualistic status is endorsed by Holy Scripture and American historical evidence. Thus, we as Christian and citizens of this free land have the responsibility to comment and vote on important issues concerning “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”, rightly positioning against sinful error. These deviations from right mindfulness in recent times are included in such issues as abortion, euthanasia, marriage, justice, war and election legislations at national, state, or local levels. With our faith predecessors in mind, therefore, I invite any and all who read these words to join the activities of the Black Robe Regiment. By doing so, you follow in the footsteps of both clergy and fellow citizens who fought, formed and reformed this free nation. With this being said, I offer to you the words of Holy Scripture… “May the peace of God that surpasses all human understanding, keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Amen and Amen!
