in him. Consequently, the retorts of these evil ones do not possess foundation.

As the Church doing ministry within this time and place, we are therefore called to condemn child abuse. Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, told of going into the wild places to retrieve a lamb caught in the briar patch. Shouldn’t we, therefore, make a concerted effort as his Church... to act in a similar way? I dare say “Yes!”

Whether clergy or layperson in the Christian church, I witness to you that we of the Church need to watch closely for any evidence of child abuse. Even if the crime is admitted to a clergy person by an offender in the sanctuary of the confessional, we must draw a hard line against such human sinfulness. We must somehow report child abuse to relevant authorities and see to it that the child is protected from further insult. I believe this should be pursued even to the point of breaking the confidentiality of the confessional.

As well, do not allow negative press characterizations of our government’s child welfare agencies to slow your actions! Instances of agency neglect are very few. Though the government’s responses are not perfect, neither are we. Remember! Just as jesters of old often told truths in their art... a member of the Christian music scene has called us to task about this issue. For the sake of the little ones, let’s pay attention to her voice crying in this nasty wilderness.

Now, rightly considering this matter, I echo to you… “May the Peace of God that surpasses all human understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus our Lord... Amen.”
