pothole along that straight and narrow road that John echoed about. No, it seems many have not clearly declared salvation exclusively through Christ. We have not properly held up our Lord before society as crucified and Risen for our sake. We have not witnessed in the public square without placing ourselves and our agendas within the message. In mainline Christian denominations we’ve softened the unchanging Law given to us in the Ten Commandments. These laws were designed to condemn us and drive us to Christ for salvation, but are now relegated to be bypassed like snowplow covered warnings seen along life’s road. The Church’s message has become weakened by progressive, internal demonic powers while we watched from whited, hollowed out tombs as riots, demonstrations, physical abuse, abortion, rampant killings and other travesties blatantly sound loud alarms. Condemnation falls upon mainline congregations all while progressive entertainment theology eats away at evangelical-minded fundamentalist communities. Law and Gospel truth becomes a stinging salt only used when needed to fight frozen Christian roads. How do we correct this steering toward a religious abyss? I believe we must turn to scripture and recover traditions that have succeeded. St Paul, in writing the church in Rome revealed that we must note our approaching personal death and be driven prayerfully to repent of our sinfulness and thus return to the altar where we may receive grace. |
