the modern holiday scene, we of the Church must do an examination of who we are. We also need to find out what evil schemes are plotted against us. The answers to our dilemma are not found within the modern tools of sociology, but rest as testimony found in Holy Scripture. According to biblical study, because of Satan and our cooperative sin... we are finite. We die and our bodies return to the elements from which they come. Only a divine act of God can change that process. So it is with our personal bodies, and this is also true of all we invent… including our objects of false worship. Our churches once formed in faith, we often make into idols which can quickly disappear despite our efforts. For instance, we see our youth grow. Though blessed with prayers for their travels by family and congregation, we see them fail to return to keep pew emptying wolves far from our Church doors. You see, as scripture reveals us as entities who are blessed by God, who is eternal and shall endure... but in what form? As many Church structures and their devout congregations struggle to minister in modern society, we ask ourselves “Will we Christians continue in the present following of our eternal Lord? In traveling as congregations toward the fulfillment of God’s kingdom, we may wonder what this holiday season and new calendar year will bring to us. Taking stock of our denomination’s religious identity, we may rightly ask, “Do we love God, as presenting himself through his beloved Son?” Additionally, “Do we also love our brothers and sisters in the faith?” Answering these two Commandments given by Jesus can cause us to examine ourselves farther.
