Spiritual considerations are also at issue. Persons with Judeo-Christian religious belief need to wrestle with scripture and the eternal future of frozen embryos. Christians need to know that according to scripture written in St. Paul’s letter to the church in Rome, all persons are sinful and fall short of residing in God’s eternal presence. The sinner eventually dies and is ruled foreign to God forever. Given this as accepted fact, we need then to view earlier words provided in the Book of Deuteronomy. There it is written…

“For I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

                                   (Deuteronomy 5:9-10)

With this, it seems evident that a child, whether preborn or born… inherits the sins of the parents. Original sin passed along is why it is traditionally paramount for many Christians that infant baptism is quickly sought through the power of the Holy Spirit. Baptism provides forgiveness of sins for a baby after it’s born and the presence of the Holy Spirit as guide. With this necessity in mind, therefore, it becomes important that any court accepting the thawing and death of an embryonic child is ruling toward an eternal death. The act is, putting it rather harshly… condemning an unborn child to the outer darkness of hell. The only exception that comes to mind for me as a minister is that if the mother is a forgiven Christian, the eternal safety of the child may follow. However, scripture states the child is an independent entity. Following this, the declaration runs against my generous assumption.

Grace Upon Grace?

Is there hope? Always before God there is… an argument has been historically offered that children who are murdered in embryo or just after they are born…  are yet sinful before God because they inherit the original sin of Adam and Eve. Our Creator judges all flesh according to the Law as stated Commandments.

A VOICE FOR CHRISTIAN POLITICAL INFLUENCE TODAY!

We humans are guilty. All of us. However, it is also apparent in scripture that God also exerts mercy through Christ far beyond our understanding. If we lean heavily on the words of Jesus, the Christ of God… the Deliverer… who held the value of children’s joy even higher than the thoughts of the most educated, but self-serving parents… there is room for hope. Sadly… for me as a called minister speaking before the Church… there is no firm evidence in scripture attesting to that outcome.

I do however believe that God is indeed merciful and abounding in steadfast love. May the Holy Spirit guide each of us then in ministering to families who have children, and comforting those who do not but desire them. In this very complex age, let us rail against crimes against children. May the peace of God that surpasses all human understanding, keep our collective hearts and minds in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Amen
