It is in these discourses that I find the Church is surely needed. We need to form an expression of God’s intent for life and liberty in this society. We have become lazy and timid and neglect our responsibility. We must know that we are called, encouraged and empowered by the Holy Spirit to express opinion in the government and public square. If needed, write or call a Congress person about these issues, or request Presidential attentions. Indeed, if need be we are called even to “lay down” our substance and our lives in right service against evil. Be urged therefore, to call or write leaders in all three branches of government to amend the progress of unjust legislation or practices. Let us do so in the name of Jesus Christ, who overturned tables in the marketplace of the temple. He confronted powers within both temple and state during his ministry on earth. Done in this way, appalling political actions may disappear from the American scene in both Church and state. So it should be written, and so it shall be as God wills it. Amen |
